Overnight Learning Block
Every morning from 1:00 a.m/midnight until 6:00/5:00 a.m., our overnight
learning block provides teachers and students with (free!) video resources
that enhance and stimulate interest in the curriculum. Students experience
cultures, places and ideas that they might not otherwise have access to,
and teachers have access to high quality videos they can afford! Also
available on overnight programming are professional development resources
for continuing education and telecourses
that can be used as dual enrollment or simply as an enhancement to your
existing curriculum. Many of the series selected for the learning block
have teacher's guides and/or lesson plans available that complement and
extend the series.
Idaho's National Teacher Training Institute
Video can be a powerful educational and motivational tool. However, a
gret deal of the medium's power lies not in itself but in how it is used.
Video is not an end in itself but a means toward achieving throughtfully
selected learning goals and objectives. Effective instructional video is
not television-to-student instruction, but rather, teacher-to-student instruction,
with video as a vehicle for discovery. Using specific techniques, teachers
can strategically use video to promote student interest and understanding
by targeting video content and using it to promote teachers' own unique
instructional agenda. These
lesson plans were developed as a means to effectively use video in the
classroom and as a way to integrate multimedia resources into classroom
curricula.
